For those who've read Ysabeau Wilce's short stories, the language in Flora Segunda isn't as complex, but it's similar, as if language had been put into a blender and come out in a perfectly balanced smoothie. The world is similar--I finally caught on that "Califa" might be a mutated alternate version of California, someday/somewhen, but only because their major enemy, the Huitzils, bore some resemblance to the Aztecs.
I really liked this book. It was ornate and fun. There were adventures, and madness, and depression, and coping, and amusing things, and brave things. It's one of the best books I've read in a while. I don't want to say more than that, as I don't want to spoil it.
Go. Read.
