last night's rehearsal

We've now run through all of the pieces for the December 7th concert. Four rehearsals to go, counting the orchestra rehearsal. Some bits weren't perfect at speed, but a little woodshedding before next week will take care of that, so I can be sure I'm hitting all those quick notes right in the middle as they whizz by. I am amused that the recording I have of what we worked on last night, with a boy's choir, is much slower than we're singing it. I like the speed. It gives an extra lightness.

Quotes of the evening:

[describing the working class sensibility of a particular cantata's opening movement]
"They're shepherds. They don't have anything, they're out in the fields all night. They're shepherds, and they suck."

[when we get to the part where we're the angels singing]
"Heavenly choirs don't slouch."
