progress report

Finished paper edits last night and did laundry. Actually, I did most of the edits while sitting in the laundry room. Then I compiled the chapter files and entered changes. I think I made it a little less than half the way. I need to finish tonight.

Of course I am not satisfied, but in a perfect world, I would be spending months on edits until I was satisfied, and also I would not have edited until the entire draft was done. But this novel is for a commercial world, and there's no point in having an agent if you don't open your mind to her suggestions.

I'm going to stop angsting now. Tonight, I only have time to enter edits. I have to email the file off tomorrow morning.

Sexton, "An Obsessive Combination Of Onotological Inscape, Trickery And Love"

An Obsessive Combination Of Onotological Inscape, Trickery And Love

Busy, with an idea for a code, I write
signals hurrying from left to right,
or right to left, by obscure routes,
for my own reasons; taking a word like writes
down tiers of tries until its secret rites
make sense; or until, suddenly, RATS
can amazingly and funnily become STAR
and right to left that small star
is mine, for my own liking, to stare
its five lucky pins inside out, to store
forever kindly, as if it were a star
I touched and a miracle I really wrote.
