I'm listening to my new recording of Macmillan's Mass while doing some rather repetitive work, and have reached the "Benedictus" movement. The hosannas sound much more chaotic than I'd imagined. Maybe having seen the music on the page does make a difference in what I think it will sound like and what it actually does sound like; I know I heard that section differently from within the choir when we sang it. At the time, I had to be aware of who was moving when in those big swoops. When I'm spacing out a little, not focusing, it sounds really wild!

Macmillan is such a cool composer. And a cute Scots accent, too!
