Wednesday Reading

Today I'm reading Summer of the Mariposas by Guadalupe Garcia McCall, which is really excellent so far. It's a YA fantasy involving five sisters who find a body floating in the Rio Grande, and end up making a trip to Mexico because of it. Their father has recently run out on their mother, and it happens that their paternal grandmother, whom they haven't seen in some time, lives near where the dead man came from.

I'm not that far into it yet, but it's really excellent. Vivid characters - all five sisters have distinctive personalities, not just the eldest who's narrating - and strong prose.
