It's a New Year and that means plans

I have now Done Some Things. I went back to the gym last night and lifted weights--over the holiday new machines were installed, and the old barbells replaced with new ones, which are not all scraped up, but alas are not worn smooth on the grippy parts, either (I forsee new callouses).

I have decided that twice a week is not really enough for weights, but I don't seem able to manage any more than that because I avoid the gym on the weekends, and I need a couple of weightless days in between lifting sessions. I am pondering what to do about this. In the meanwhile, I want to go 3-4 times a week, 5 if possible, so I can do more cardio, like I was for a while.

I am terrible about financial planning. This year, baby steps on that front. After a year of many large expenses, I'm back to an automatic savings plan. Am also trying to decide if it's worth it to me to pay for a smartphone of some kind. The cheapest I've found so far is with Virgin Mobile, $35 a month after the cost of the phone (various, in the $80-$200 range). I am not the sort of person who has to be cutting edge--my current phone makes people laugh--so this would be a big change for me.

This year, I also need to get started on a new novel, actual writing and not just research and backbrain. First, though, I will finish the short story due February 1.

Could you do upper body one day, lower body the next, etc.?

That is a possibility. Though deadlifts and squats do involve my upper body somewhat. Might be easier to divide up with machines.

Hmmm. I get overall fatigue as well as specific muscles, but not sure how that would work if I only worked some muscles.
