I wrote 2500 words this weekend, which exceeded my goal. I'm on what's probably the last scene of the draft. I should be exultant but in fact am just exhausted. I know once the draft is done I have to go back and heavily edit the beginning, which is slow and meandering and doesn't do nearly enough in the service of the story's main relationship. Right now I can't figure out how I'm going to do that. It seems an insurmountable problem, a big hill of slippery mud.

Once I get started on that, it won't be quite as bad. One thing at a time usually works, at least at first.

It's got a due date. Therefore, it will be done by that date.

Go you! Sometimes things that seem insurmountable when you're looking ahead at them begin to sort themselves out as you actually complete the work between there and here. As you finish the ending, the beginning may come clearer in your mind. I hope.

Easy for me to say, as I have the beginning of a story to rewrite but haven't done it yet.

"Big hill of slippery mud" is a brilliant description. ; )
