Reading Wednesday

Today I am finishing up a book for anonymous review, so I can't tell you what it is.

Earlier this week, I finished the new C.S. Harris, out in a few weeks, titled What Darkness Brings. These are the Regency-set mysteries with the twisty mytharc--well, there's no myth, but it makes me think of X-Files in structure--the mytharc is as compelling as, or more so, the actual mystery-of-the-week. Many excitements in this installment, but also some payoffs for us longtime fans. Here's the author's webpage about the series.

I started an urban fantasy by Sharon Shinn but I really didn't like it, so I stopped reading it. I don't think it was necessarily a bad book, just not my thing.

What mostly interested me in the St. Cyr mysteries is the author is a New Orleanian. She even managed to complete the book by deadline that was going when Katrina hit and her family evacuated. Her spouse is a military officer -- that might or might not have helped -- I don't know if he's retired or not.

The books are getting rather formulaic at this point, so grabbing the new one as fast as possible is not longer in operation for me now though.

Love, C.

I'm in it for the "mytharc" rather than the individual mysteries at this point!
