Normal! Brain!

My MRI came back. There are no masses or tumors. There were some "non-specific" areas that lit up (?) that sometimes manifest in people with migraines, and sometimes manifest in people without migraines. Which tells me pretty much nothing...but nothing is good.

For all I know, I will never again even have an optical migraine. And if I do, I won't be so terrified.

OH THANK GOODNESS.

That was just too weird.

At least it didn't hurt. Either the optical thingie or the MRI.

Yay!

There is an amazing amount of "we don't understand brains" still about. Much of it is, "we can take a picture of it, but we have no idea what those funny dots are."

Good to hear.

I reiterate: painless migraines are kind of fun, once you know they're not a sign of something bad.

I can appreciate all that "Ooooh, pretty floaty colors" business, knowing that when my sis gets a migraine, she has to go into a dark room with a cool washcloth on her head and large drugs in her bloodstream. All I get is a distracting lightshow.

I'll take the lightshow instead of pain!

Classic migraine without headache is certainly better than with! But the rainbow-margined zigzags curving around the center of my vision bugged me even after I knew what they were. What do you do for amusement when you can't read books or watch TV? Even a twenty-minute wait for the thing to expand away used to drag.

Well, so far I've only had one. I attempted to keep reading. Didn't work...guess if it happens again, I will listen to music.

It's actually not that uncommon for someone to get a first optical ("Classical") migraine in their 40s-- my mom got her first at about 54. Hormonal changes as you age and all that.

Yay no abnormalities!
